Over the Hill on the Yellow Brick Road, a blogging award started following me. I wondered what it wanted.
Excuse me, Sunshine Blogging Award, can I help you?
BLOG AWARD: Actually, I can help YOU. RudyMariee from the blog: http://www.visionsandgiggles.com/ has nominated you for the Sunshine Blogger Award.
Omg! That’s so flattering and such an honor! Especially coming from RudyMariee. She’s an amazing writer. Every one of her posts is so genuine. She writes from her heart, is funny, and I always relate to the way she looks at life and her family. So, I’ll take the award.
BLOG AWARD: Hold your horses. You haven’t won yet. First you have to do a few things.
Like what?
BLOG AWARD: Start by linking your blog back to http://www.visionsandgiggles.com Actually, I just did that for you.
Thanks. Now I’ll take my award.
BLOG AWARD: Nope. Now you need to answer eleven questions about yourself that RudyMariee created below.
Okay, here I go. Here are the answers to RudyMariee’s questions:
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I hope to reside permanently Over the Hill on the Yellow Brick Road.
- If you could change one thing about the current world, what would it be?
Revise gun control laws in the United States.
- Why did you start blogging?
Throughout my career, I’ve been a writer. I’ve always compromised with those who have hired me in order to “get the job done.” My blog is just my own writing voice. No revisions. No rewrites. For better or for worse. 🙂
- What advice would you give to new bloggers?
Follow your heart. You’ll reach those who will “get you” and they will follow you.
- What is the most interesting or most unusual thing about you?
I wrote for Sesame Street for twenty years, so I spent a lot of time with the Cookie Monster and the Snuffleupagus.
- What would be your idea of a perfect day?
Being left alone. I’m really a cat disguised as human.
- What are you most passionate about?
My family, writing, eating.
- What are you planning to do differently in 2018 in regards to your blog?
In April, I have a book coming out which is based on my blog. It’s called, “Over the Hill on the Yellow Brick Road.” It has a story that I might incorporate into my posts.
- Have you found anything particularly difficult about your blogging journey?
Making enough time to read all the amazing blogs I follow.
- What kind of books do you enjoy reading?
Biographies and autobiographies about artists.
- If you could be anyone for 24 hours, who would it be?
Albert Brooks. He makes me laugh the hardest.
BLOG AWARD: Nice job.
Fine. I’ll take my award now.
BLOG AWARD: Nope. Now you have to nominate eleven new bloggers.
Are you kidding me? That’s almost impossible. I read so many different kinds of blogs written by so many different, talented people. I cherish the exchanges I have with each and every one of them. How can I possibly choose eleven?
BLOG AWARD: Just do it, or you won’t get your award.
Okay, how about this? I read blogs written by people who express themselves through words, art, photographs, humor, food, poetry, fashion, spirituality, health and pets. I’ll nominate one or two bloggers from each category, and they’ll represent all the awesome blogs I read on all those topics.
BLOG AWARD: Works for me.
So, to represent all the blogs I follow, I nominate these eleven talented bloggers for the Sunshine Blogging Award. They help look at the world differently every day:

Thank you and link back to your blog.
Answer eleven new questions you will ask them below.
Nominate eleven new bloggers and write them eleven new questions.
List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Logo.
Okay. Here are the eleven new questions for my blogger nominees:
- From where do you draw inspiration for your blog?

- If you could live one part of your life over again, what part would it be?
- Who is your favorite artist?
- What’s an adventure in your life you’d still like to have?
NOW? Now can I please have my award?
BLOG AWARD: It’s yours.
Yaaay! Finally! And, thanks again to RudyMariee at: http://www.visionsandgiggles.com/
I’m exhausted! 🙂

You’re most welcome and do take your time responding. It took me a while to respond to my award as well because, though it’s a wonderful honor, it requires lots of thought. our recent post: By the way, your recent post “The nature of change and the nature of fashion” blew my mind. I just loved those “mismatched” fashions. Really creative.

From where do you draw inspiration for your blog?
I don’t blog because I’m too lazy but if I did it would be because I hate making small talk and blogging would be a way to talk on and on about myself without being interrupted.
What’s the title of your favorite post and why do you like it best?
“When Food is Your Best Friend” . . . a diet book I have been writing for around 15 years. Clearly, I am the least qualified person to be writing a weight loss book . . . but apparently I DO have a loyal friend.
If you could have a second home anywhere in the world or universe, where would it be?
A huge yacht to travel around the world on.
What’s your favorite childhood memory?
Sitting in a row boat when I was like 2 or 3 years old with my Dad, Mom and sister and grabbing onto the lily pads. I felt complete joy and love.
Who is your favorite fairy tale character?
Old Mother Hubbard. She was fat and cuddly looking like my Maimar. Other than living in a cupboard, I don’t recall much else about her.
What’s your favorite food?
Potatoes esp French fries
If you could be a flower or a tree, what kind would you be?
A Mangrove
Where do you go if you want to have a quiet, spiritual moment?
The bathroom at work.
If you could live one part of your life over again, what part would it be?
My early twenties when I was too busy being miserable to realize how new and exciting and fun everything was.
Who is your favorite artist?
Jeff Koons
What’s an adventure in your life you’d still like to have?
Around the world cruise
That was FUN!

I will have a glorious time (think little piglet in a mud wallow) trawling through your nominated blogs and I must just mention that I am SO happy to vaguely know someone who wrote for Sesame Street …. literally this has made my day, week possibly YEAR. And congratulations 🍾🎈 x

I remember my Grandmother who would now be 121 years old and used to spend 2 months of every year in the US with my Uncle and his family talking me about this amazing TV show she had become hooked on and that all children the world over should be able to watch …. that was Sesame Street and when it eventually hit Great Britain I was ready and waiting with open arms but still blown away … chapeau to you 😊

Aaaah. Such a great story. I loved that show as much as you did. When I wrote it, the philosophy was, “This isn’t the way the world is, but it’s the way it could be.” Here’s to a wonderful street.

If that philosophy was adopted by leaders of nations how wonderful this world WOULD be ….

So honored to be among your nominees for the Sunshine Blogging Award, Cathi. If it was anyone else I might decline but since you are one of my favs I will work on a response to your nomination. Thank you so much. I am excited to learn you have a book coming out. And I am so intrigued by your years writing for Sesame Street! That is amazing indeed. Probably when I was watching it with my son you were behind the scenes making me laugh!

I look back on the days writing Sesame Street as a wonderful chapter in my life. It’s so great to know you and your son were watching. My kids didn’t like Sesame Street–they watched Barney and Thomas the Tank Engine while I slaved away at scripts I hoped would please them. 🙂 Oh well. Also, I looked at your awesome book “Boomer on the Ledge.” It’s similar in style to the book I’m about to publish because it has photos and text. Someone I know is doing the layout and then I’m ready to go to printing. I selected a self-publishing company but haven’t committed to them yet. Do you mind if I ask, were you happy with Humoroutcasts Press? It would seem that company would be a better fit (along with other humor books) than the company I’m thinking of using. If you’d rather respond to my email address it’s: overthehillYBR@gmail.com

What an interesting time it must have been to write for Sesame Street! Thank you for checking out Boomer on the Ledge. I do recommend Humoroutcasts Press and will send you a separate email so we can ‘discuss’ more freely. Donna has been fantastic and I’ve really gotten my money’s worth.

Congrat’s!! I am new to blogging and the blogging world. I spend more time reading blogs, than spending time on my own, but that’s okay. I love your acceptance speech and NOW I have a new list of bloggers to follow and learn from. I love your advice about staying true to your heart.
I’m always getting “Put your keyword here” “You don’t have your keyword there” “Are you using the right keyword”
I can’t just spew keywords everywhere and stay REAL. Thanks for the advice and the post, it added another smile to my morning. 🙂

Thank you so very much for your very kind words. I’m a relatively new blogger, too. I started back in June. I find it’s great to listen to advice from others, but in the end you have to do what feels right for you. Go with your instincts. I will follow your new blog. Welcome to the virtual world. 🙂

Hi Cathi, I just happened to stumble on this post and saw your kind nomination. Thank you so much. I am deeply touched. I made the tough call to become Awards free – BUT this is my response and thanks to you: https://soulgifts.com.au/awards/
You wrote for Sesame Street?! Awesome 🙂 Must have been so much fun. I still watch it sometimes. My alltime favouritest is Elmo. When our second adoption came through our son wanted desperately to call his new baby brother Elmo!! It was tempting…..

Hi! And thank you for your kind words, as always. I look back on the part of my life when I wrote for Sesame Street as a very special chapter. Back in the days when I was in college, that’s what I wanted to do and somehow found my way to “the street.” Also–Elmo might have been a fun name for your younger son, but I probably would have gone with Snuffy or Grover. LOL

And to be nominated by you means a lot to me because I totally admire what you write. And when I read you wrote for Sesame Street, i almost jumped with joy. Yeah…. i have conversations with someone who wrote for Sesame street. Who was your favorite character there? Just curious.
I am indeed privileged to be nominated by you and shall do the needful. It will take me some time to finish it though.

Hi! Take your time answering the questions. It took me a very long time as well. It was a great pleasure nominating you. Also–thank you for your kind words about Sesame Street. I loved all the characters for different reasons…but there is a special place in my heart for Oscar the Grouch. I believe there is a “grouch” in all of us, and for me, Oscar reminds us it’s okay to admit we’re partially made of grouchy stuff. 🙂
